Desserts are always the worse things to make. Why? because baking is a science, and you always have to follow the recipe for it to work. It is also the longest thing to make most of the time. Unless, unless, you find recipe like this one that is so easy and so quick to make. Definetly a recipe you need to keep in mind when time is pressing. I found this recipe in the Chocolate Edition of the Fine Cooking Magazine 2006.
Ingredients: 1 cup of al purpose flour, 1/4 cup and 2 Tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 baking soda, 1/4 tsp of table salt, 1/2 cup of butter melted and warm, 1 1/4 cups f brown sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp of vanilla extract, 1/2 cup of hot water. I cup of warm ganache.
Turn your oven to 340. In a small bowl, mix the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. In another bowl mix the melted butter and the brown sugar. Then add the vanilla and the eggs. Dump the flour mixture in the egg and butter mixture and stir. Pour the hot water over the batter and mix well. Empty the batter into your cake pan. I used the flower mold from Demarleathome. Cook the cake for 25-30 minutes until the center is cooked ( check by using a toothpick. It should come out clean. ) Let cool in the pan. Then invert the cake onto a cake rack, and place a plate under the cake rack to collect the ganache.
While the cake is cooking, prepare the chocolate ganache.
Ingredients: 1/2 lb of bittersweet chocolate, 1 cup of heavy cream.
In a large bowl, place the chocolate. Place the heavy cream in a microwave proof container and warm up the cream for 2 minutes until it is starting to boil. Add the hot cream to the chocolate. Let it rest for a minute or 2, then mix well until all the chocolate has melted and the ganache is becoming smooth.
Pour over the cake. Let the cake stand for 15 minutes until the ganache settles and cools off. Lift the cake off the cake rack, and place onto a serving plate. Collect the ganache off the plate, and place it into a pastry bag or a plastic bag. Place the bag in the fridge until the ganache is starting to solidify. Remove it from the fridge and decorate your cake with it. Et Voila! Impressed;-)
To serve, add whipped cream and fruit to the plate. Savour!!!
Bon Appetit and Happy Cooking!!!
